One of the fires burning in the Angeles National Forest is threatening a ranger station north of the Los Angeles suburb of La Canada Flintridge.
Forest Service fire spokesman Robert Brady says the fire got “really rowdy” Thursday afternoon and crept down a narrow canyon to the southeast.
Brady says the fire has grown to at least 300 acres, but is still a mile away from homes.
He says engines are guarding the station and helicopters used the last few moments of daylight to blast the surrounding forest with water drops.
The firefighters based at the station and their families who live there evacuated Tuesday.
Another fire in the San Gabriel Mountains has burned 1,850 acres, or nearly 3 square miles, but is 45 percent contained.
